The Untrusted
Applications module shows Untrusted threat gateway applications
and processes on your computer, as well as from the Default Built-in List. If any
application on the Default Untrusted List is run, DefenseWall will mark it as
untrusted. Applications started from within Untrusted folders will also be
Untrusted.
The Default Built-in Untrusted List contains popular, known Internet Browsers, E-mail clients, Instant Messengers, Internet
Relay Chat clients, Media Players, P2P
clients and Download Managers.
View the Untrusted Applications List:
Right-click the Tray Icon select Main - click on Untrusted applications tab.
Add any other typical threat gateway applications to the Untrusted
Applications List that you use which are not on the Built-in Default list.
Removable sources/devices
can be set up as Untrusted threat gateways through
the Advanced tab - Options dialog. Check the box Automatically
run applications
from removable sources (CD/DVD-ROM and USB-Drive).
Recommended:
Check the box Periodically check applications from built-in list and set them as
untrusted, also found in Advanced - Options.
Untrusted inheritance rules are simple. A process will run as Untrusted if:
·It is within the Untrusted Applications database.
·It is run by an Untrusted process.
·It is under the Untrusted file open inheritance ruleset. (ie: if the Trusted
process Microsoft Office opens a document listed within the Untrusted
applications list, Microsoft Office will convert to Untrusted state.)
DefenseWall supports safe, Untrusted double-click decompression of Untrusted
archive files for many external archive programs (WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, etc.).
Also, the Windows Compressed (zipped) Folders feature utility is fully supported.
All unzipped files that need to be set as Untrusted will be, automatically.
As of DefenseWall v.2.10, when you directly run a zip file, it runs Untrusted if the
zip is untrusted, and runs Trusted if the zip is trusted.
Microsoft Office and built-in WordPad are fully supported.
